TAKE ACTION

Join us in advocating for a stronger, more equitable DMV dance community.

Whether you are a dance educator, former Joy of Motion faculty member, adult student, parent of a student, audience member, or member of the broader community - you can help us create a more inclusive DMV dance community that truly values diversity.

Here's how you can help today:

1) Sign & Share the Petition: Our public petition calling for leadership change at Joy of Motion Dance Center launched on June 21. Over 4,500 dancers, educators, and community members have signed on, but the Board of Directors remains in place and inactive. Please help us keep the pressure on to ensure needed leadership changes happen. Now more than ever, JOMDC needs a Board of DIrectors that is just, equitable, effective and can lead.

2) Donate to our FundraiserDMVCODE is raising funds for dance educators who lost employment at Joy of Motion Dance Center, and others in the area experiencing challenges associated with COVID-19. Dance educators in need of assistance to cover rent, utilities, groceries, childcare, or equipment/video conferencing services to teach from home can apply for and receive these funds. We've raised over $5,000 in 3 months but continue to receive requests for the funds, so please consider donating to enable us to keep saying "yes".

3) Share Your Story: What does the DMV dance community mean to you? What has been your lived experience as an educator, student, parent, or community member? What would you like to see in your future DMV dance community?

  • Tell Joy of Motion leadership directly what you expect of them, or would expect to see in a reopened studio.

  • Share your thoughts with your networks on social media (you can tag us @dmvcode44, or email us if you're willing to share your story on our site).

4) Join DMVCODEDance educators and enthusiastic community members welcome! For more information, please help us get to know you by completing our brief form, and we'll be in touch.
