ABOUT DMVCODE

Who We Are

DC, Maryland and Virginia Coalition of Dance Educators (DMVCODE) was originally created by former Joy of Motion Dance Center (JOMDC) faculty, and formed in the face of the COVID-19 crisis amidst the ever-growing Black Lives Matter movement. JOMDC's failure to foster an equitable work environment propelled us to take direct action with their board and leadership. In just a short few months, DMVCODE has grown to over 70 dance educators and supporters. We have come together to lay the foundation for a fruitful and equitable dance environment throughout the DMV, with the goal of influencing change well into our collective future.

The Administrative Working Group (AWG)

The AWG is a leader-full group of passionate dance educators and supporters doing the work behind the scenes to lift up the voices of DMVCODE. This group of ten individual leaders ebbs and flows with the needs of DMVCODE and the calls to action. Communication, information gathering, and most importantly, support, fall squarely on the shoulders of this group. In short, the AWG is here for you.

Mission

DMVCODE aims to support DMV area Dance Educators by providing a platform to communicate and put in motion actions that benefit the community as a whole.

Educators will find support through our community and communication.

Students can connect with their favorite teachers and have a voice in reshaping their dance home.

Parents can advocate for a safe, inclusive educational environment for their children to learn and grow.

Dance supporters will have a place to express their ideas and concerns to positively impact the future of the dance community.
